General Wall-Mounted Pressure Washer Setup Estimated reading: 8 minutes 1148 views Summary: Tired of lugging the pressure washer around? With some electrical and plumbing you can have a slick wall-mounted unit in your garage. Special thanks to our contributors: Discord: Heck. Heck did a great job on his home system and wanted to share the setup with others. This serves as a general guide for aiding in the process of planning and purchasing parts. Not everyone is going to have the same water inlet or outlet location as the next person and that’s OK! Part of the fun of it is making it your own and adding your personal touch on it. If you feel like your handy in running basic plumbing and have experience running outlets, then go for it. If not, its totally fine to call in a pro or a friend who knows how. This guide was heavily inspired by the Obsessed Garage system. I will be using the Obsessed Garage diagram (below) as a general reference for the guide. I have found this diagram to work quite well in the real world, feel free to modify this to your liking. Example: I found it to be a tad too high, so I moved it all down 4 inches. Credit: Obsessed Garage Pressure Washer Diagram Water and Power RequirementsThis will depend greatly on what’s existing or what needs to be installed by a pro. I would do your own research on this part as different areas have different building codes. Water Line SizingA general rule of thumb is to have at least a 1/2 water line. 3/4 would be ideal for a single high GPM pressure washer. If you are doing something crazy like dual Kranzles, then you may want even bigger. Make sure you have decent water pressure as well. Use a bucket with markings and a stop watch to find your estimated GPM and make sure its higher then the minimum recommended by the manufacture.Electrical OutletYou want at bare minimum a dedicated 15 amp circuit for the pressure washer, though 20 is what is highly recommended and what I would go for. Consult the pressure washer manufacture for what the amp draw is. Your nozzle/foam cannon choice will also impact the total amp draw by a decent bit and can push you over the 15 amps even though your pressure washer only pulls 13.8 amps. Make sure the outlet has some sort of ground fault protection to eliminate the risk of electrocution if water comes in contact. Reminder: This is a general guide. You’ll need to do your own research when it comes to what pressure washer you want. This will vary based on your available space, budget, and other variables. Pressure Washer ResearchNow to the fun part. There are many choices out there to pick from, I would steer clear away from the Chinese junk and look into a reputable manufacturer (Kranzle, AR Blue, Active, Comet, etc..). Form factor is also extremely important. You want something that can fit on a shelf reasonably or if you have a power washer with a built in mounting bracket like the Active 2.3, then don’t worry. ShelvingYou can skip this if you have a mounting solution built in your pressure washer already. You need something with adequate brackets that is made to handle the weight of a power washer sitting atop of it (check weight of your power washer). Popular sizes include 18×8 and 20×10 shelving. This will differ between case to case. Mounting hardware will be the same as you may not have the same surface as the next guy (wood vs concrete vs block). Make sure your mounting surface can hold the additional weight Example: Finding the studs in a wall or/and adding ply-wood to the wall/studs to create a more robust mounting solution. Hose ReelThis is going to be a crucial part in the system. I would recommend a quality hose reel with a quality swivel like Coxreels. You are looking for a hand crank reel, since its the most robust and there’s no real added convivence of having a retracting hose reel for this application. Feel free to use any hose reel you wish, doesn’t have to be a Coxreel.High Pressure HoseThis is another critical part in the system. You want a minimum of a 50ft hose for the reel, only factor limiting the length is your choice of hose reel. You also want 3/8 threaded ends on both sides. Popular picks include the Kobrajet, Flexzilla, Uberflex, etc… hoses. Make sure you can get around a vehicle with the hose or get a longer one.Spray Guns & WandsThis really comes down to personal preference. I wouldn’t cheap out on this part since its the part that’s always going to be in your hand. You want something that’s conferrable to hold and ideally has a swivel built in to help untangle the hose. Some people like wands over the short stubby guns and that’s OK! Popular picks come from Mosmatic & MTM.Optional: Deionized Water SystemDI water is a amazing tool to have in any detailing arsenal. Adding a DI system isn’t tough to do or even down the road. A popular choice for DI water is the CR Spotless systems. Make sure its “high output” and can flow enough water (GPM) to the pressure washer(s). Many people also DIY their own systems as well.Optional: Bucket FillerWhile you’re there, it may be a good idea to incorporate a bucket filler by adding a T into the piping with some adapters and getting a short hose and nozzle to fill up buckets conveniently. If you have a DI system, this is even better, because now you can have buckets of DI water on tap! Inlet Hose and Whip LineYou want a flexible inlet hose coming off the rigid plumbing to feed into the inlet of the pressure washer because the power washer will move slightly under load and also makes it much easier to service down the line. You can go crazy and spend $160+ on a 2-3ft hose made from some exotic stainless steel or you can go with a solid garden hose style like from the Conti-Tech line. Popular sizes include 2ft, 3ft and 5ft. This will be different per person based on water inlet location and you even may need 30ft. For the whip line (line from outlet of power washer to hose reel) you want 3/8 threaded ends. Popular sizes include 2/3/4/5/etc.. ft. This again depends on mounting location.Running the Plumbing LinesWhat if I don’t have a spigot or water inlet? You can still run a garden hose or plumb a setup to feed where the inlet is located in the main diagram. You can use any sort of plumbing you want, many people use 1 inch for this. Copper, PCV, PEX, Prevost (what I used). The idea of this is to have valves that will allow you to bypass the DI system (if equipped) up about where the hose reel sits that will allow you to connect your inlet hose. Adapters and fittings will be different based upon your choice of plumbing, but generally you will need:3x valves2x T fittings2x 90 degree fittings1x (pipe size if choice) to 3/4 GHT for garden hose1x a fitting that allows you to adapt your inlet to the exterior plumbing. You may need additional fittings or less depending on your setup.Quick Connects and MoreYou want to quick connect the inlet and outlet of the power washer and the hose end that connects to the spray gun. Pick a quality stainless steel quick connect that will allow for easy connections. You want a fitting that will the adapt a m14 or m15 outlet of the power washer to the whip hose. Make sure to use thread tape on all threaded connections for a leak-free experience.Miscellaneous NotesYou may want to cut the power cord for the pressure washer for a cleaner install, best way is to cut the plug side and not the power washer side.Get a rubberized hose clamp to pin the whip hose up on the side of the shelf.Additional InspirationCheck out Obsessed Garage and other YouTube channels for inspiration.
